THINKER

For me, this image signifies an awareness of hybrid living, along a spectrum from partially to complete immersion in a virtual or metaverse reality. A cyborg ontology for humans is becoming clearer and clearer, and expanding exponentially from the seemingly “innocent” days of Web 01 in the early 1990s. Now almost every human on the planet has their reality altered, enhanced, or impacted by digital technologies; as this technology facilitates and intervenes with next level ecosystems of biology, consciousness, and commerce. We see this evolutionary trending in the advent and implementation of Web3, AI, and the Blockchain.

Abstract environmental landscape that reflects the beauty and complexity of nature. In Virtual Reality each artist expresses the importance of nature in the meta world they created using Oculus Quest 2 headset, Tilt Brush and Blender.

Dreamscape

There was a fearless adventurer named 4everKurious who stumbled upon a mysterious portal in the middle of the city. Without hesitation, 4everKurious stepped through the portal and found himself transported to a strange and wondrous steampunk world, filled with intricate machinery, gears, and clockwork contraptions.

As 4everKurious explored the metaverse, he discovered a series of portals that led to different AI metaverses. Excited by the prospect of exploring these new worlds, 4everKurious eagerly stepped through each portal, not knowing what wonders he would discover.

Bounce is a piece that combines the metaverse concepts with AI, creating imaginary worlds and opportunity for creative collaboration and storytelling. Bounce uses Midjourney v4 and v5, Kaiber, Topaz Giga, VideoLeap, Glitche, and ChatGPT (maybe more).

My first minted piece in AI and digital, the art captures the Cinderella like story/Cuento of a young innocent kitchen maid forced to face a ferocious dragon in the dungeon. With wit and intelligence she wins over the dragon and is the hero of he story

This story brings back memories of my Aunt Rebello on the porch of her beautiful bungalow in  sunny Goa (An ex Portuguese colony), India. Children from the neighborhood were drawn to her stories, she would insist that we sit in a circle around her to listen. Occasionally, we could feel the light touch of her swirling skirt as she acted out her stories with enthusiasm. Some of the stories were familiar, like "The Three Little Pigs," while others were more complex. Regardless of the story, Aunt Rebello would always begin with the familiar phrase "Era uma vez em Portugal" (Once upon a time in Portugal). Although I'm not sure if Aunt Rebello ever actually visited Portugal, but through her stories, we certainly felt like we did."

This work is part of a series inspired by the cuentos and pueblo Indian (Hopi & Zuni) story dances from my youth. As an adult, I can only grasp parts of lengthy narratives so characters are conflated and blurred as is my memory of them. 

Using AI I attempted to describe some of the stories with prompts, then curate the outputs down to one composition that closely aligns with my recollections. The scenes are embellished with drawn lines and artifacts in an attempt to further color the story. The viewer can draw their own conclusions about what tale is unfolding – in that way, I love playing with my memories while others project their own.

Wildy

Latin-American cultures have been teaching their children about maize for millennia through stories. The importance of maize goes beyond nourishment. It provides the community with purpose, working all together to cultivate and harvest. Each generation of our community grows stronger, smarter and more resilient, along with the maize and our traditions. This photograph was taken back in February 2021 after nearly a year in lockdown due to the pandemic, the family came together to prepare the maize dish, Humitas. This traditional Chilean dish has been prepared for generations in our culture. Due to the complexity in its preparation everyone is involved in making this meal possible. We reconnected through this preparation ritual, talking about how we got through the pandemic and reminiscing about old family stories so that our youth could know their past. Once again, we had a purpose. Together we could keep our traditions and gather strength to make it through the months ahead.

Resilience

MesoMariposa is an exploration of the Toltec and Mexica ancient belief that butterflies are the souls of people who have died. In some stories it was the souls of fallen warriors, who like butterflies and flowers usually lived short lives. In other stories butterflies were souls of women who've died during childbirth, and even those who were sacrificed to the gods in ritual human sacrifices made by some cultures throughout time. The artwork is a mixed media work consisting of 3D sculpture, AI imagine generation, and painted and animated on Procreate.

As I got further into the personality of the client, I realized that pimp could be defined as "Positively Influencing Many People". The reality is that we are all typically defined by what we look like on the outside, and not who we are within.
